Caravan Race Series #6 - September 21 , 2002
Half the regular racers of the Caravan Series went to NYC for the 100K/Marathon. Imagine our surprise when world team skater Stephen Carter arrives at our Caravan race right after we had set our strategy for the day. It was time for plan B.

The Men's Category 3 & 4 Race: Don Hudson is a strong UTV skater that has done two races and now won two races in this division. Hudson went out on a solo breakaway from the beginning and wasn't pulled in until Capital Racing's David Rao bridged the gap by himself during a 3 lap effort chasing Hudson down. The two out front were then soon caught by the guys from Team Fast Forward. Hudson took first even after his breakaway and doing much of the work at the front of the pack after he was caught.

The Men's Category 1 & 2 Race: The two strongest guys in this race are both sprinters-- Tour/Labeda's Steve Carter and Capital Racing's Juan Gomez. No one else in the pack was strong enough to break away. There were many attempts, but the gap was quickly closed. With Gomez near the front of the pack on the bell lap and Carter setting up at the back, Carter made his move up the final hill on his 5 x 84mm frame and came past the lead pack at high speed. Carter had the jump on Gomez as he came past, but Gomez has a strong sprint of his own. Carter had set up the bell lap tactics too well and his timing was just right to hold his gap till the finish with Gomez in a close 2nd place. Darren Kaufman took third.

In the other divisions there were no surprises. Capital Racing's Ashley Camper took 1st in the Women's Race, Capital Racing's Michael Dyas again took the master's category win, and the kids races saw repeat winners as well. See the podium photos below (click the pic for a full size version).

Capital Racing team members and others used sponsor equipment including the Mogema M55-84 frames, Rudy Project Ekynox glasses, K2 Mod X Pro boots, Hyper Hyperformance+G and T. E. wheels and Zero Drag Ultimate bearings.
